Impermium, a Palo Alto, CA-based provider of a service for fighting social web spam, has raised $8m in a Series A funding.
The round was led by Highland Capital Partners, with participation from existing investors including The Social+Capital Partnership and Freestyle Capital.
The company intends to use the capital to fuel the build out of its service. In the coming months, Impermium will expand its engineering, data analytics, sales and marketing departments (http://www.impermium.com/jobs.php).
In conjunction with the funding, Andy Miller, general partner at Highland Capital Partners, will join the company’s board.
Founded in 2010 by CEO Mark Risher, CTO Vish Ramarao, and Naveen Jamal, Impermium provides a subscription-based service that protects social web transactions in pilot projects spanning social networks, media companies and top consumer web sites against the biggest threats today.
The company is currently providing anti-web spam and fraud/abuse support to DISQUS, a social media commenting platform which serves 600 million monthly users and is deployed across some of the world’s largest media sites including CNN, The Atlantic, Fox News and Time Magazine.
