Student showing his ClassDojo digital portfolioClassDojo, a San Francisco, CA-based consumer education brand behind the communication app for pre K-8 schools, raised $35m in Series C funding.

The round, which brought the total raised by ClassDojo to date to $65m, was co-led by GSV and SignalFire with participation from prior investors including General Catalyst and Uncork Capital.

The company intends to use the funds to accelerate international expansion and investment in more education experiences.

Founded in 2011 by Sam Chaudhary, CEO, and Liam Don, CTO, ClassDojo is a school communication platform that teachers, students, and families use to build relationships and supportive communities:
– by sharing what’s being learned in the classroom back home through student portfolios, photos, videos, and messages, and And, two,
– by helping students build social-emotional skills through in-classroom feedback and engaging activities.

The funding follows the recent roll out of a new product for families: Beyond School. Available in the existing ClassDojo app, Beyond School is an optional subscription that gives families access to learning experiences for their children at home, beyond what’s happening in the classroom. Revenue from Beyond School will be used to keep improving ClassDojo, which will remain free for all teachers, children, and families everywhere.

ClassDojo has reached over 95% of U.S. pre K-8 schools and serves hundreds of thousands of schools in a further 180 countries.
