Cloudflare, Inc., (NYSE: NET), a San Francisco, CA-based provider of solutions that protect and accelerate any Internet application online, acquired S2 Systems Corporation, a Kirkland, Washington-based developer of patented browser isolation technology to improve the web browsing experience.
The amount of the deal was not disclosed.
As a result of the acquisition, the S2 team has joined Cloudflare and is located at Cloudflare’s new office in the Seattle metropolitan area.
Following the deal, Cloudflare expects to add S2’s technology to Cloudflare Gateway, part of Cloudflare for Teams, a new security suite designed to protect corporate employees.
Cloudflare for Teams is centered around two core products, Cloudflare Access™ and Cloudflare Gateway™. Cloudflare Access is a Zero Trust identity and access management solution that secures, authenticates, and monitors user access to ensure that employees and devices are who they say they are. Cloudflare Gateway is a new solution being developed that will secure and filter outbound Internet traffic to protect employees from threats on the public Internet.
Cloudflare expects that S2’s technology will be able to protect endpoints from zero-day vulnerabilities without sacrificing speed, website compatibility, or user experience.
Led by Darren Remington, co-founder, and David Harnett, co-founder and CEO, S2 has developed browser isolation technology that executes browser code on cloud servers rather than on a user’s device. The solution keeps security threats away from the device, only sending rendering instructions to the viewer’s browser. Users navigate the Internet without adding risk posed by threats across the public Internet.
