ZoomSafer, a Reston, VA-based provider of policy software to prevent distracted driving, has raised an additional $1m round of financing from SugarOak Holdings.
The company will use the funds to expand marketing and sales and deliver enhanced policy controls and analytics to help corporate and consumer customers ensure safe, legal and hands-free use of mobile phones while driving.
Commenting on the funding, Matt Howard, Founder and CEO of ZoomSafer, was reported to say: “Distracted driving is a complicated and growing behavioral problem that costs our country 5,000 lives and our economy $40 billion dollars per year.
“This additional financing will enable us to enhance our existing platform so large-scale corporate fleet customers can easily and proactively enforce customized safe driving policies which, in turn, will enable them to reduce crashes and save money”.
Once downloaded to a mobile phone, ZoomSafer detects when the user is driving and automatically puts the phone into safe drive mode. While in safe drive mode, inbound alerts are suppressed and the phone’s keypad and screen are locked to eliminate the dangerous temptation to text, email or dial while driving.
Additionally, ZoomSafer offers a variety of customizable and hands-free services so users can stay connected with friends, family and co-workers while driving, including auto-replies to incoming texts and emails to let others know that you’re driving, one-touch access to voice dialer for making hands-free outbound calls and receipt of hands-free inbound calls from priority contacts.
