PocketGear, Inc., a Durham, NC-based open app store and content marketplace, closed a $15m Series B funding.
The round was led by Trident Capital, with participation from BlackBerry Partners Fund.
The company will use the funding to scale technical operations, build out its sales and marketing team and expand its global reach.
In conjunction with the investment, John Moragne, Senior Managing Director of Trident Capital, and Kevin Talbot, Co-Managing Partner of the BlackBerry Partners Fund, join the company’s board of directors.
PocketGear open app store and content marketplace has a catalog of more than 140,000 paid and free titles and relationships with more than 32,000 developers. The company powers the mobile application and content solutions of over 40 distribution partners around the globe, including top handset manufacturers, mobile operators, and leading media and ecommerce companies, such as Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, Research in Motion, Microsoft, T-Mobile, AT&T Wireless, and Verizon Wireless.
PocketGear also operates offices in Munich, Germany and Irving, TX.
