Semprius, Inc., a Durham, NC-based provider of high concentration photovoltaic (HCPV) solar modules, raised $20m in its first tranche of Series C venture funding.
The round was led by Siemens Venture Capital, with participation from ARCH Venture Partners, Applied Ventures, Illinois VENTURES, Intersouth Partners, In-Q-Tel and GVC Investment.
Semprius intends to use the funds to build a pilot HCPV module production plant that will be used to scale up and optimize production for subsequent large-capacity plants.
Led by President and CEO Joe Carr, Semprius produces high-efficiency, low-cost high concentration photovoltaic (HCPV) solar modules using patented cell technology and novel manufacturing processes.
