Bleacher Report Closes $22M Funding Round

Bleacher Report, a San Francisco, CA-based independent sports media site, has closed a $22m funding.

The round was led by Oak Investment Partners, with participation from Crosslink Capital and Hillsven Capital.

The company intends to use the new funds to scale operations, including the build out of content development and revenue support teams, expand content experiences like video and mobile where contributors can be connected to content consumers.

Launched in 2008 and led by CEO Brian Grey, Bleacher Report (B/R) is a Web publisher of original and entertaining sports content. Its editorial team leads more than 1,000 featured columnists and 7,000 contributors. B/R’s content is also syndicated to a number of national and regional publishing partners including USA Today, NBA.com, Los Angeles Times, Philly.com, San Francisco Chronicle, Houston Chronicle and Seattle PI.

In conjunction with the funding, Fred Harman, General Partner at Oak, will join the company’s board.
