Kakao Corp., a Seoul, Korea-based developer of a cross-platform mobile messaging application, has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from DCM.
The company provides KakaoTalk, a downloadable software application for mobile devices that allows users to send and receive messages including photos, videos, voice messages, URL links, and contact information for free.
The application, which is available in English, Spanish, Japanese and Korean for IOS, Android and Blackberry (open beta), is currently used by over 25 million users worldwide.
The investment was made by A-Fund, the DCM vehicle focused on companies leveraging the Android ecosystem.
Established in April 2011, the fund is backed by KDDI, GREE, and Tencent.
