Global private equity firm 3i is to make an R$100m (approximately US$55m) minority investment in Blue Interactive Group, a Brazilian cable TV and broadband provider.
Formed by CEO Silvia de Jesus, Marcelo Lacerda and Sérgio Pretto in 2009 as an acquisition platform in the pay TV and broadband markets, the company is currently present in 9 Brazilian states and 14 cities. The transaction, whose close is still subject to regulatory approval, is intended to help Blue continue to grow organically in the cities in which it currently operates and expand its network into other mid-sized cities where cable TV is unavailable, as well as through acquisition. Besides expanding its offering into other cities, Blue is also looking to introduce innovative products and services for its customers such as “Over the top”, which enables subscribers to access a library of downloadable films and “Iris”, which enables subscribers to monitor cameras in their business or home remotely.
Through its Business Leader Network, 3i has also introduced Richard Alden as chairman.
