SendGrid, a Boulder, Colo.-based cloud-based Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) platform, has raised $21m in Series B funding.
The round was led by Bessemer Venture Partners, with participation from existing investors Foundry Group, Highway 12 Ventures, SoftTechVC, 500 Startups and Bullet Time Ventures.
The company plans to use the funding to accelerate global adoption of its solutions, hire new people is both in the U.S. and abroad across multiple job functions, including sales, marketing, operations and engineering (http://sendgrid.com/jobs.html), and continue to invest in product, developer relations and customer support.
Launched in December 2009 and led by CEO Jim Franklin and President and co-founder Isaac Saldana, SendGrid provides a cloud-based email infrastructure designed to relieve businesses of the cost and complexity of maintaining custom email systems.
It is used by forty thousand web applications companies and developers, including including foursquare, Pinterest, Airbnb, Twilio and Path, SendGrid.
The company currently employs 70 people across its Boulder, Colo., and Anaheim, Calif. offices.
