Tripbirds, a Stockholm, Sweden-based social travel site, has launched its public beta opening up the service to anyone.
Co-founded by local entrepreneurs including CEO Ted Valentin, Jonatan Heyman, and Robert Kajic, the company received a round of seed funding in late 2011.
Investors included Index Ventures, Passion Capital, Creandum and angel investors Peter Read, Andreas Ehn (ex CTO at Spotify and co-founder at Wrapp), Eric Wahlforss and Alexander Ljung (Soundcloud founders) and Dave Morin (Path founder).
Tripbirds allows people to discover places and plan trips based on recommendations from friends in their social network. It helps users see different parts of the world through the eyes of friends by collecting their Facebook and Foursquare check-ins and Instagram geo-tagged photos, grouping them by destination and making it easy to see, and ask for, recommendations.
