Flint Mobile, Inc., a Redwood City, California-based mobile payments company that is launching in Beta an app for on-the-go small businesses to accept credit cards and to find new customers through social marketing, has raised $3m in Series A funding.
Backers include Storm Ventures and True Ventures.
The company intends to use the funding for product development, hiring, and customer acquisition.
Founded in 2011 by CEO Greg Goldfarb, Flint is launching its first product, a free iPhone™ app that enables merchants to easily and securely process credit card payments using only their phone. Differently from existing solutions that require a separate card reader, Flint uses the phone’s camera to process payments without the use of any additional hardware.
The app also integrates customizable receipts with built-in social marketing tools designed to enable merchants to engage with their customers and to tap into online word-of-mouth referrals.
