GitHub, a San Francisco, CA-based provider of tools to share code with friends, co-workers, classmates, and strangers, has raised $100m in its first outside funding from Andreessen Horowitz.
In conjunction with the deal, Peter Levine of Andreessen Horowitz has joined the company’s board.
Founded in 2008 by Tom Preston-Werner, Chris Wanstrath, and PJ Hyett, GitHub is a hosted Git repository. It provides a distributed software management program which allows users to take part in collaboration by forking projects, sending and pulling requests, and monitoring development.
