RelayFoods, a Charlottesville, VA-based online marketplace for healthy and sustainable foods, has raised $1.3m in funding from existing investors.
The company, which currently serves customers in Charlottesville and Richmond, VA., intends to use the funding to expand into the greater Washington DC, Baltimore and Philadelphia metropolitan areas, as well as to develop an intelligent product recommendation engine and automatic customer segmentation functionality, which is designed to accelerate the personalization of the shopping experience beginning with a customer’s initial visit to the site.
Led by Zach Buckner, founder and CEO, Relay Foods currently offers more than 11,000 grocery items – including local meat, produce and dairy direct from farms in the mid-Atlantic region – for home delivery. The recent acquisition of Arganica Farm Club allowed the company to diversify its food portfolio, and to gain thousands of current customers in the above mentioned areas of expansion.
