Red Tricycle, a digital media company offering curated local parenting content, has raised $1.5m in Series A funding.
The round was led by Maveron, with participation from 500 Startups, Richmond Park Partners and zulily, angel investors Paul Buchheit, Bob Pittman, Jon Nordmark and Jason Calcanis.
The company intends to use the capital to grow geographically, broaden its product offering, and grow the community.
Founded in 2006 by Jacqui Boland, CEO, Red Tricycle helps busy urban parents plan their weekends by delivering timely, relevant local news through a variety of communication devices such as email, website, social media, RSS, and soon, mobile.
The company is currently operating in six major markets (NY, LA, SF, SEA, PDX, SD) behind an ad-supported revenue model. National advertisers include Amazon, Microsoft, Old Navy, Paramount, Disney, Starbucks, REI, IKEA, Whole Foods and ClifBar, as well as over 250 local advertisers.
In conjunction with the funding, Jason Stoffer, Partner at Maveron, will be joining the Board of Directors.
