Legend3D, Inc., a Carlsbad, California-based 3D visual effects and conversion company, closed a $8m Series B funding.
The round was led by existing backers Augustus Ventures Limited and Northwater Capital Management Inc., via its Intellectual Property Fund.
The company intends to use the capital to expand operations, both domestically and internationally, in China, Japan and Europe.
Founded in 2001 by Dr. Barry Sandrew and led by Brian Robertson, CEO, and Ian Jessel, President, Legend3D leverages its patented 2D-to-3D conversion technology to provide high quality 3D solutions on new feature films. The company, which also identifies opportunities from iconic library titles, has worked on movies including Top Gun 3D, Oz: The Great and Powerful, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Smurfs, Hugo, Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
