Tapiture, a Venice Beach, CA-based male-oriented social discovery site, raised $825k in seed funding.
Backers included unnamed angel investors.
The company intends to use the capital to expand the platform its engineering team (read here) and further develop mobile apps, which recorded 8.6m visits by 4.1m unique visitors with engagement levels of close to seven minutes per visit in the fourth quarter of 2012.
Led by CEO John Ellis, Tapiture pairs user’s social and interest graphs to deliver relevant content including interesting images, videos and products via a visually compelling mosaic. Originally founded by Brothers John and Leo Resig of Resignation Media to complement their theCHIVE.com with a social media component the company was later spun out as a separate corporate entity.
Tapiture will add retail buyers (Tastemakers) to their team who will partner with merchants to curate products available directly for sale on Tapiture.
The startup currently employs seven employees and expects to double their team by mid-year 2013. Tapiture also plans to grow their Board of Directors by two Board seats from independent directors.
