PokitDok, a San Mateo, Calif.-based online health marketplace, received $4m in Series A funding.
The round was led by New Atlantic Ventures and Rogers Venture Partners, with participation from Subtraction Capital, Zac Zeitlin and FFP Holdings. In conjunction with the funding, John Backus, co-founder and managing partner, New Atlantic Ventures, and Will Stewart, general partner, Rogers Venture Partners, will join PokitDok’s board of directors.
The company intends to use the funds to expand its beta program and add engineering, business development and marketing staff to both its Silicon Valley headquarters and Charleston, SC, office.
Founded in October 2011 by Lisa Maki, CEO, PokitDok allows consumers to research and shop for healthcare, by specialty, condition or a specific provider’s name, from primary care to surgery, and pay for treatment using their health insurance, cash or health savings account (HSA). Providers can establish a storefront to market their services, including traditional medicine and alternative treatments, and publish prices.
