Learning Labs, a Birmingham, UK-based developer of a foreign language learning product, raised £300k in equity funding.
Backers included Midven, Minerva and Finance Birmingham. The Birmingham Post Growth Fund provided grant funding.
The company will use the funds to manufacture its solutions, take them to market and grow its team.
Led by Veejay Lingiah, director, Learning Labs develops a foreign language learning product that incorporates 3M’s Post-it Note® technology. Its FlashSticks are patent pending packs of 200 printed Post-it® notes, each note containing a commonly used foreign word, translation, icon and phonetic. By sticking the post-it notes® up in places, learners and their families can now learn their foreign vocabulary as they simply go about their daily routine.
A free app using the Aurasma augmented reality platform allows users to view an instant pronunciation video for the word.
The company has established a partnership with WHSmith to roll out French, Spanish, Italian and German FlashSticks® into their 500 high street stores. The product will also be available on Amazon and via www.flash-sticks.com, with each pack of 200 words selling for £5.99.
