Speek, an Ashburn, VA-based provider of a conference call solution, raised $1.1m in bridge financing in advance of its Series A.
The round was led by existing investors (which include 500 Startups, CNF Investments, Valhalla Partners, Middleland Capital, CIT GAP Funds, Vanedge Capital, Fortify Ventures, K Street Capital and Piedmont), with participation from new investors including:
– Stewart Allen, founding CTO of webMethods and CTO of AddThis;
– Michael Chasen, co-founder and former CEO of Blackboard and founder and CEO of SocialRadar, through NextGen Angels;
– Timothy Chi, co-founder of Blackboard and co-founder and CEO of WeddingWire; and
– Sonny Ganguly, co-founder and CMO of WeddingWire.
The company, which has raised a total of $2.6m to date, intends to use the funds to continue to improve its proprietary voice platform and scale its user base.
Founded by CEO John Bracken and CTO Danny Boice, Speek provides a conference calling solutions with a visual interface, which uses a personal or business link (i.e., speek.com/YourName) instead of a phone number and PIN for conference calls. It allows users to see who has joined, who is talking, share files, use call controls, etc.
In May, the company launched Speek Pro, the premium version of its service.
