Cyanogen Raises $7M in First Funding

-

According to Fortune/Dan Primack (read here), Cyanogen, a US-based third-party developer of firmware for Android devices, raised $7m in its first round of funding.

The round was led by Benchmark Capital with participation from Redpoint Ventures.

Led by CTO Steve Kondik and CEO Kirt McMaster, CyanogenMod has created a customized, aftermarket firmware distribution channel for Android devices. Based on the Android Open Source Project, CyanogenMod is designed to increase performance and reliability over Android-based ROMs released by vendors and carriers such as Google, T-Mobile, HTC, etc., and offers a variety of features & enhancements that are not currently found in their versions.
