According to the company’s blog, Upworthy, a New York-based provider of a social media web site, raised $8m in funding.
Backers included Spark Capital, Catamount Ventures, Uprising and the Knight Foundation.
Co-founded by Eli Pariser and Peter Koechley, Upworthy is a social-native media startup that is creating a platform for content to go viral.
The company intends to use the funds to hire new people (read here), expand to new editorial areas, scale the business, and develop new solutions.
