Sample6, a Boston, MA-based company focused on applying biotechnology to advance food safety, raised $11m in Series B financing.
The round was led by Canaan Partners, with participation from Cultivian Sandbox, and Series A lead investor Flybridge Capital Partners. In conjunction with the funding, Stephen Bloch, MD, General Partner of Canaan Partners, joined its Board of Directors while Peter Farina, PhD, Executive in Residence for Canaan Partners, will join the Scientific Advisory Board.
The company intends to use the funds to commercialize first products, Sample6 DETECT/L and Sample6 CONTROL.
Sample6 DETECT/L is a diagnostic assay designed to identify Listeria contamination. Sample6 CONTROL is a software platform, which is used by food companies to plan, execute, remediate and analyze food safety programs.
They are both expected to be available in the first half of 2014.
Sample6 is led by Tim Curran, CEO.
