Planet Labs, a San Francisco, California-based space and information company, raised $52m in Series B financing.
Backers included new investors Yuri Milner, Industry Ventures, Felicis Ventures, Lux Capital, and Ray Rothrock and existing investors DFJ, Capricorn, O’Reilly Alpha Tech Ventures (OATV), Founders Fund, First Round Capital, Innovation Endeavors, Data Collective, and AME Cloud Ventures.
The company intends to use the funds to launch Flock 1, a constellation of Earth observing satellites, and enter commercial service.
Led by President and COO Robbie Schingler, CTO Chris Boshizen and CEO Will Marshall, Planet Labs operates Earth imaging satellites to image the entire planet at a high frequency – collecting data and insight for both commercial and humanitarian applications.
