StreetHub, a London, UK-based local online marketplace for independent shops, raised $1.2m (approximately £750k) in seed funding.
The round was led by Index Ventures and Octopus Investments with participation from Playfair Capital and Avonmore Developments and angel investors and advisers from the technology, retail and logistics sectors.
The company intends to use the funds to expand the team and grow the network, which already includes 150 shops across London.
Co-founded by Maxim Berglund, Mandeep Singh and Alex Loizou, StreetHub operates a mobile, tablet and web platform for shoppers to discover and purchase unique homeware and fashion items from independent retailers in their local area.
Launched in Central London last month (in the neighbourhoods of Shoreditch, Stoke Newington, Islington, Notting Hill and Bloomsbury), the company plans to rollout across new areas next year.
