Facebook (Nasdaq: FB) acquired Branch Media, a New York City-based startup that builds social products to empower conversation.
The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.
According to Josh Miller, who posted a note on Facebook (read here), the team of the company will focus on forming Facebook’s Conversations group, based in New York City, with the goal of helping people connect with others around their interests.
Backed by Jason Goldman, Evan Williams, Biz Stone, Ryan Freitas, John Borthwick, Jonah Peretti, Lerer Ventures, John Borthwick’s Betaworks, and Ron Conway’s SV Angel, Branch has built two products:
– Branch, a platform for hosting and publishing invite-only conversations; and
– Potluck, a web and mobile app designed for friends to hang out and talk about things they find online.
Miller said that these services “will live on outside of Facebook“.
