Google (nasdaq: GOOG) acquired spider.io, a London, UK-based provider of a fraud detection technology for online advertisers.
The amount of the deal was not disclosed.
Led by Douglas de Jager, CEO, Ashley Brown, Chief Architect, and Vegard Johnsen, Chief Customer Officer, Spider.io developed technology that identifies in real time the type of automated agent responsible for each individual ad request.
The Mountain View giant will include the technology in its video and display ads products with the goal, over the long term, to improve the metrics that advertisers and publishers use to determine the value of digital media and give all parties a clearer picture of what campaigns and media are delivering better results. According to a written note, by including spider.io’s fraud fighting expertise in its products, Google “can scale our efforts to weed out bad actors and improve the entire digital ecosystem“.
