Hubub, a New York-based online community around user-generated topics, raised $8.5m in Series A funding.
Backers included Edgar Bronfman, Jr., Todd Ruppert, former CEO of T. Rowe Price Global Investment Services and Tom Kalaris, former CEO of Barclays Wealth & Investment Management.
The company intends to use the capital to grow operation and develop hubub mobile, which is due in February.
Led by Peter L. Corsell, founder and CEO, hubub is a topic-based social community that provides a dynamic environment for discussion, debate and expression and is a source for information on the topics and issues that matter most to users.
Based on users’ areas of interest, a topic combines content from across the web, including articles, images, videos and social media. Everybody can add polls and start a debate with friends within a topic or explore what others are saying.
The company has a team of engineers based in Toronto, Canada and business offices in Miami.
