If You Can Company, a San Mateo, CA-based startup that uses gameplay to teach children social and emotional learning (SEL) skills, raised $6.5m in Series A funding.
The round was led by Greylock Partners with participation from Almaz Capital and others. In conjunction with the funding, David Sze, partner at Greylock Partners, joined If You Can Company’s Board of Directors. Andreessen Horowitz, Founder’s Fund, Maveron and others had invested in a $2.8m seed funding.
Founded by Electronic Arts and Digital Chocolate’s Trip Hawkins, CEO, and and Jessica Berlinski, If You Can also released its first game, “IF…”, which is now available for iPad. “IF…” combines storytelling and game-play mechanics to engage and motivate to offer a chapter-based adventure game that helps children (ages 7-11) learn social and emotional skills like how to manage difficult emotions, persevere through challenges, make healthy decisions, and show empathy and compassion.
