Piazza, a Palo Alto, CA-based social learning platform, raised $8m Series B funding.
The round was led by Khosla Ventures with participation from previous investor Bessemer Venture Partners. In conjunction with the funding, Keith Rabois, a general partner at Khosla, joined Piazza’s board of directors.
The company intends to use the funds to expand the new Piazza Careers Platform, R&D and marketing efforts.
Founded in 2009 by Pooja Sankar, CEO and publicly launched in 2011, Piazza is a free online gathering platform where students can ask and answer questions 24/7, under the guidance of their instructors. Users can create a class at Piazza.com to initiate class discussion and work together in real time with classmates and instructors to find the answers they need. Students and alumni can also use the new Piazza Careers platform to connect with companies (Box, Hearsay Social, Palantir, SpaceX and Yelp) , apply for jobs and internships, and find out more about the skills needed to excel in their chosen careers.
Piazza is FERPA-compliant and used in hundreds of colleges and universities.
