Spree Commerce Raises $5M in Series A Funding

spreecommerceSpree Commerce, a Bethesda MD-based provider of an open source e-commerce platform, raised $5m in Series A funding.

The round was led by Thrive Capital, with participation from Vegas Tech Fund, Red Swan Ventures, and existing investors True Ventures and AOL Ventures.

The company will use the funds to accelerate the continue to develop products and expand operations.

Led by Sean Schofield, CEO, Spree Commerce provides open source software that enables retailers to create customized storefronts.
In 2013, the company launched its hub, which allows allows customers to connect storefronts to their fulfillment providers, accounting systems, ERPs, in-store payment systems, etc.
The hub works with all leading storefront platforms, including Spree, Magento, hybris, etc.
The company, which serves more than 45,000 retailers in over 100 countries including Bonobos, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Blue Bottle Coffee, is currently hiring.
