Luxottica Group S.p.A. (MTA: LUX; NYSE: LUX), a manufacturer of luxury and sports eyewear, and Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG), will join forces to design, develop and distribute smart eyewear.
Luxottica’s brands, Ray-Ban and Oakley will be a part of the collaboration with Glass.
The first collection aims to combine high-end technology with avant-garde design with devices reflecting attention to detail, quality and technology grown in the global market.
Commenting on the partnership, Google Vice President and head of Google X Astro Teller said: “Luxottica has built an impressive history over the last 50 years designing, manufacturing and distributing some of the most successful and well-known brands in eyewear today.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with them as we look to push Glass and the broader industry forward into the emerging smart eyewear market”.
