According to multiple reports, Shazam, the London, UK-based music discovery app, raised $20m in funding.
The name of the backers remained undisclosed. Previous investors included America Movil, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, DN Capital, Institutional Venture Partners, and Acacia Capital Partners.
Founded in 2000 by Chris Barton, Philip Inghelbrecht, Avery Wang and Dhiraj Mukherjee, and led by CEO Rich Riley, Shazam is a mobile application that recognizes music and media playing around users, currently connecting more than 420 million people, in 200 countries and 33 languages. It works on all major platforms including iOS, Android, BlackBerry, and Windows 7 and is available on all major app stores including iTunes, Amazon, Android Market, and the Nokia Store, among others.
The company has US offices in Menlo Park, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego, Seoul and Sydney.
