VoltDB, a Bedford, Mass. and Santa Clara, Calif.-based provider of an operational database delivering high-speed data processing and real-time, in-memory analytics, closed an $8m Series B funding.
The round was led by an unnamed Silicon Valley investor with participation from two additional independent backers as well as existing stakeholders Sigma Partners and Kepha Partners.
The company intends to use the funds to accelerate sales and marketing as well as to expand globally.
Founded in 2009 by Professor Michael Stonebraker of MIT and led by CEO Bruce Reading, VoltDB provides a platform with high speed and capacity to process, analyze and make decisions on massive amounts of incoming data in real-time (milliseconds). Customers in markets including mobile, financial services, energy, advertising and gaming use its architecture to power mission critical enterprise applications, transportation systems and electricity management, mobile and advertising networks.
The company has more than 400 commercial customers.
