Flux, a San Francisco, CA-based provider of collaborative design software for the building construction industry, raised $8m in funding.
The round was led by DFJ, with participation from Borealis Ventures. In conjunction with the funding, Steve Jurvetson, a DFJ partner, joined Flux’ board of directors.
The company intends to use the funds to continue developing and testing its software on a few select projects this year.
Founded in 2012 by Nick Chim, CEO, Jen Carlile and Michelle Kaufmann, Flux is advancing collaborative design software for the building design and construction industry. The team has been developing a platform to manage the full complexity of designing site-adapted, high-performance, and healthy buildings. Their process starts by constructing a relationship graph between the key building systems driven by owners’ business objectives. By adding data and algorithms to the graph, the system then allows building owners to trade-off upfront construction cost with marketability, life-cycle operating cost, occupant experience, and environmental impact.
The company, which was born out of Google’s moonshot factory, Google[x], expects to launch the product to the market in early 2015.
