Top Hat, a San Francisco, Ca.- Chicago, Ill. and Toronto, Canada-based provider of an innovative teaching platform, raised $10m in Series B funding.
The round was led by Georgian Partners, a growth equity firm investing in expansion-stage software companies, with participation from existing investors Emergence Capital Partners, iNovia Capital, SoftTech VC, Version One Ventures, Felicis Ventures and Golden Venture Partners.
The company intends to use the funds to will use the new funding to further accelerate adoption of its teaching platform and extend its product leadership.
Led by Mike Silagadze, co-founder and CEO, Top Hat provides a platform that enables professors to present their lectures, annotate their slides, share their notes with students, ask questions in class, facilitate discussions, and grade their students. Educators can conduct polls, quizzes, assign homework or run interactive tournaments. The solution, which is also available for mobile devices, is currently used by more than 300,000 students at more than 400 universities, including UCLA, UC Berkeley, and Harvard.
