Fresh Nation, a Stamford, Conn.-based online marketplace for farmers markets, completed a $1M seed funding round.
Backers included Lightspeed Venture Partners and Lerer Ventures.
The company intends to use the funds to expand its services to the Los Angeles area, and from there to other locations in California.
Launched in June 2013 by Antony Lee, CEO, Fresh Nation creates delivery zones for fresh local food by connecting neighboring farmers markets into a single online destination, enabling consumers to order food directly from their local markets for home delivery most days of the week.
The service, which is available in select East Coast regions, uses trained personal food shoppers to fill customer orders and leverages a proprietary ordering and delivering platform that connects farmers, food artisans, farmers markets and consumers.
