Lifx Raises $12M in Series A Funding

LIFX, a Los Altos, CA and Melbourne, Australia-based provider of Wi-Fi enabled, multi-color LED light bulbs, raised $12M in Series A funding.

The round was led by Sequoia Capital with participation from Guy King and Bevan Clark. Sequoia partner Omar Hamoui has joined the company’s board of directors in conjunction with the funding.

The company, which had previously raised $1.3m via Kickstarter, will use the capital to expand operations hire engineering, sales and marketing teams to create IoT products.

Led by Phil Bosua, CEO and founder, LIFX offers smart bulbs and a free iOS or Android app to give users complete control of lighting, with over 16M colors. The bulb is 1,000 lumens and requires no hub.

The company, which also has an open API platform so developers can freely develop apps, offers three models that retail for $99.00 USD each: Edison Screw, Bayonet Cap and Downlight (pre-order).
