According to a blog post, WeSpeke, a Pittsburgh, PA-based social network for language and cultural exchange, raises $3m in Series B funding.
Backers were not named.
The company intends to use the funds to hire new employees, expand its global presence, and offer new features to enhance its experience.
Founded in 2010 by Michael Elchik, President and CEO, and Jaime Carbonell, Ph.D., Director of the Language Technologies Institute at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, WeSpeke is a a free global digital learning platform designed for practicing languages, sharing cultures, and making international connections. It uses patent pending matching technology to allow learners to build language skills through collaborative conversations with native speakers using text chat, audio chat and video.
