Google (GOOG) acquired Lift Labs, a San Francisco-based startup that makes devices for people with tremor.
The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.
Led by CEO Anupam Pathak, Ph.D, the company has developed Liftware, an anti-tremor spoon to assist with eating people with Parkinson’s disease or essential tremor, Lift Pulse, which measures tremor using the sensors in the smart phone, and Lift Stride, which allows people to discreetly prevent shuffling while walking.
Lift Labs, which had raised $1m in September 2013 from Rock Health and undisclosed angel investors (read here) and 800k from the National Institutes of Health, will continue to sell its system, while Google will enable it to reach more people who could benefit from using tremor-canceling devices every day.
