Sharetribe, a Helsinki, Finland-based online platform that allows anyone to create their own marketplace business, raised $1m in seed funding.
The round was led by Lifeline Ventures, Reaktor Polte, and Tekes, the Finnish government funding agency.
Led by CEO Juho Makkonen and COO Antti Virolainen, Sharetribe allows users to create a marketplace site and make money from transaction fees. The Sharetribe online service makes it easy for people to build their own marketplace and let their community buy, sell or rent any type of product or service.
Users have already built marketplaces in more than 50 countries as part of its initial beta-testing rollout.
