Spacehive, a UK-based civic crowdfunding platform, raised £1.3m in funding.
The round was led by SI2 Fund with participation from Big Society Capital and a number of individual angel investors.
The company intends to use the funds to scale in the UK.
Founded by Chris Gourlay, Spacehive provides a crowdfunding platform that allows people to create and fund civic projects online. Since being set up in 2012, it has helped to fund 55 projects across the UK worth £1.8m with successes including playgrounds, parks, and free public wi-fi networks. Backers have included Kevin McCloud, Danny Boyle, David Bailey, Sir Ian Botha and firms like Tesco, John Lewis along with mayors of Hackney, Bristol, and Liverpool.
