Pear Deck, an Iowa City-based edtech startup, raised $500,000 in seed funding.
The round was led by Digital Cowboy Ventures with participation from unnamed angels.
The company intends to use the funds to hire people and grow the platform.
Founded in January 2014 by Riley Eynon-Lynch, Riley Eynon-Lynch, Anthony Showalter and Dan Sweeney, Pear Deck has developed an interactive presentation application “that aims to eliminate boring classroom lectures“. It allows teachers to plan and build interactive lessons directly from Google Drive that promote active learning in the classroom. As students interact with the lesson, real-time data provides instructors the feedback they need to adapt teaching in real time.
It has been used in over 4,500 schools.
