Howler, a Boston, MA-based mobile marketing startup, raises $200k in seed funding.
Founded by Hunter Gaylor and Joe Viscomi, Howler uses Apple’s iBeacon technology to allow its app to connect businesses to potential consumers based on the mobile user’s shopping and dining preferences while conserving battery life thanks to Bluetooth (BTLE) technology.
The app is in use at more than 200 shops and restaurants. Howler allows them to send a deal or alert – known as a “Howl” — to consumers within a 200 feet range.
For $99, business owners can subscribe to its data analytics and marketing software suite for one year and are entitled to unlimited Howls.
The app is currently available for download on Apple’s app store, with an Android framework version set for release in spring 2015.
