Nilas, formerly known as Inbox, a San Francisco, California-based developer of an API for building email client apps, raised $8m in funding.
The round was led by Formation 8, with participation from Fuel Capital, SV Angel, Data Collective, Great Oaks and others. In conjunction with the funding, Joe Lonsdale of Formation 8 is joining Nilas’ board.
The company is using the funds to hire engineers and designers to continue to build the developer platform (read here) and new products.
Founded in 2013 by Michael Grinich and Christine Spang, two MIT alums, Nilas is building APIs for email, contacts, and calendar apps, for developers to integrate with old systems. The platform is free to get started, and powered by the Nilas Sync Engine, which is compatible with Gmail, Microsoft Exchange, iCloud, and others.
