IBM Acquires Explorys

Explorys, a Cleveland, OH-based big data company, has been acquired by IBM (NYSE:IBM).

The amount of the transaction was not disclosed. The acquisition aims to strengthens IBM’s leadership position in healthcare analytics and cloud computing.

Founded in 2009 as an innovation spinoff from Cleveland Clinic by CEO Stephen McHale, Explorys provides a cloud-based analytics platform that leverages big data for clinical integration, predictive analytics, and business intelligence. Since its inception, the platform has been adopted by 26 major integrated healthcare networks with 315 billion data elements, 50 million unique cared-for-lives, 360 hospitals, and 317,000 providers who collectively deliver $69B in care annually.

Explorys was backed by Heritage Group, Austin Ventures, Foundation Medical Partners, Santé Ventures and Cleveland Clinic.
