NewsWhip, a Dublin, Ireland-based provider of a social content discovery platform, raised over $1.6m in funding.
Backers included The Associated Press, 500 Startups, Tribal.vc, Matter, Social Starts, the SaaS Syndicate, UK Technology by Flight VC, Sam Perry, Angus McMillian, Jim Mullins, Armando Biondi, the AIB Seed Capital Fund, administered by Dublin Business Innovation Centre, Meridian Growth, Chairman Shane Naughton, and other angel investors.
The company intends to use the funds to develop the next generation of its platform, improving tracking, predicting and understanding capabilities as well as to grow the New York, US-based business development team.
Led by Paul Quigley, CEO, Spike tracks social network activity around millions of stories daily, giving newsrooms, marketers, and PR professionals a real-time view of what’s engaging people through indicators like tweets, shares and comments. Its content discovery platform, called Spike, is used to detect the articles, videos, Facebook posts and other content and predict what will matter in a few hours or days time.
