MangoPlate Closes $6.1M Funding Round

MangoPlate, a South Korean restaurant discovery service, closed an additional $6.1m funding round.

Backers included Qualcomm Incorporated, through its venture investment group, Qualcomm Ventures, as well as SoftBank Ventures Korea and YJ Capital, a venture capital firm established by Yahoo! JAPAN.

The company, which has raised over $7.2m, intends to use the funds to to focus more on customer acquisition, feature enhancement and POI expansion throughout Korea.

Launched in October 2013 by Dae-woong Kim, MangoPlate allows people to find restaurants through personalized restaurant recommendations. The service analyzes restaurant data, individual preferences and social networks to provide personal dining recommendations rather than a simple directory of restaurants.
Its platform allows users to provide reviews and photos about their dining experience.
