Gameface Media, a Boston, MA-based publisher of amateur athletic photos, secured $4m in funding.
The round was led by Copley Equity Partners with participation from Bialla Venture Partners and others.
The company intends to use the funds to expand brand sales team and to build its infrastructure.
Led by CEO David Lavallee, Gameface Media is a large publisher of amateur athletic photos (participating in obstacle races, triathlons, running races, youth sports and other athletic events for free) which allows brands to sponsor the experience and to weave advertising into the content.
In 2014, the digital platform gave away nearly 20 million free photos and generated more than 35 million page views per month.
The company has created engagements for brands such as Nike, Under Armour, Jeep, JP Morgan, Disney and Reebok.
