Illumitex Inc., an Austin, TX-based maker of optically advanced lighting products, closed a $16M C1 funding round.
The round was led by WP Global Partners, with participation from existing investors New Enterprise Associates, Morgan Creek Capital, Mousse Partners, Apex Venture Partners, Jimmy Treybig, Larry Abrams, DMWMDW Interests and Syngenta Ventures.
Founded in 2005 and led by CEO Chris Hammelef, Illumitex has developed LED technology to deliver more usable light while consuming less energy. Its lights are growing basil, spinach, kale and many other vegetables in numerous vertical farms.
In addition to its horticulture fixtures, the company also makes lights for the architectural, industrial and beauty sectors.
